When it comes to usefulness, not many building materials can compare to spray polyurethane foam insulation (SPF). SPF is an ideal insulation material for architects when energy efficiency and complying with regulations where air tightness and thermal performance are important.

SPF provides an effective thermal and air control layer around a buildings envelope. The air sealing properties and thermal insulation rating as well as the design flexibility aspects make SPF the all in one solution for architects and builders insulating residential, commercial, military and industrial buildings.

To create spray foam insulation, liquid polyurethane precursors (A-side  – MDI and a B-side – polyol blend) are combined to produce a foamed material structurally composed of small bubbles or cells. The two components are mixed under pressure at the end of the spray guns’ nozzle which is applied directly onto wall, roof or floor foundations. Once applied SPF immediately adheres to the surface and then expands 20 -120 times its original size filling gaps and acting as an adhesive to bond materials.

When properly installed, SPF can be an ideal air control material because it forms a continuous air control layer around penetrations like pipes, doors and windows. Additionally, it’s an excellent bulk water and moisture barrier. It also provides structural enhancements to buildings. When applied under roof decks, closed cell foam can reduce uplift and protect the structure in high wind areas.

Whether the objective is to increase energy efficiency meet or beat sustainability goals, provide sound insulation, create a superior air control layer or improve structural integrity. SPF is a proven asset to any builder or architects path to success. By matching the needs of the structure with the benefits of SPF almost any new or existing commercial building can benefit from SPF.
