Baumit, a global leader in energy-efficient and breathable insulation and façades, is showcasing how its External Wall Insulation, render and paints help create beautiful buildings at this year’s Grand Designs Live at Excel, London, 4-12 May.

Visitors to the Baumit stand (B138) will be able to discover how to transform the thermal performance of their homes using breathable External Wall Insulation (EWI).

On show will be the innovative StarSystem expanded polystyrene (EPS), along with EWI systems based on wood fibre panels and mineral wool. All of Baumit EWI solutions deliver the benefits of breathability.

Whilst Baumit’s innovative StarSystem EPS is breathable, it delivers the highest levels of airtightness and thermal performance, up to Passivhaus standards (check).

Baumit breathable EWI allows moisture from inside the building and interstitially within the walls to escape to the outside, preventing condensation internally and, with it, mould and damp.  This makes the system particularly effective for solid walls, which, when wet, lose their thermal performance.

The creators of the first ever Grand Designs house built inside Excel will feature the Baumit render system, a great way for visitors to get up close and personal with the company’s range of beautiful façade finishes and vast range of paint colours.

For Grand Designs visitors seeking ways to enhance the beauty of their home, the Baumit Life colour programme has an incredible 1,000 colour options to choose from. A great way for Grand Designers to add curb appeal and with it, value to their home.

John Harrup, Head of Marketing at Baumit, said: “This is the first time that we have attended Grand Designs Live and so there will be much for visitors to discover. We encourage as many as possible to visit our stand to learn more about the benefits of breathable EWI. Our recent homeowner research indicated that people are more likely to invest in a new boiler or solar panels than improve the energy efficiency of their walls and roofs. Our message is simple: it is far better to improve the thermal performance of the building fabric before investing in these other technologies.”

According to the Energy Saving Trust, around a third of all the heat lost from uninsulated homes escapes through the walls. With recent increases in UK energy prices and demand for more sustainable building solutions, Baumit is confident that visitors to Grand Designs will have energy efficiency high on their priority list.

John added: “The first ever Grand Design Live House aims to educate, inspire and wow visitors, and so we are delighted that they chose our Baumit render. We are very excited about showcasing this to visitors.”

Baumit has a network of trained and accredited installers throughout the UK that make choosing EWI very straightforward. The company’s technical team can also support installers and their customers during the design process.
