PUPILS at Houlton School in Rugby have a renewed hunger for learning after receiving an array of new books and learning resources that will enhance their studies and create a long-term love for reading, thanks to national housebuilder Lovell Homes.

With Lovell Homes’ Spectrum development within walking distance of the new school, the donation was a fitting way to support the local community and provide a lasting legacy for future pupils.

House prices start from £250,000 at Spectrum – part of the wider Houlton scheme – and the development offers a range of modern two-, three-, and four-bedroom homes ideal for first time buyers, growing families and downsizers. Residents can enjoy open green spaces, eateries, shops, exercise facilities, and the Old Station Nursery – a daycare that Lovell has also supported – as well as excellent transport links.

Lisa Preston, regional sales director for Lovell Homes in the West Midlands, said: “Spectrum and the larger Houlton community has a special offering that is idyllic for growing families looking to raise their children surrounded by green spaces, child-friendly offerings, and most importantly, excellent educational facilities.

“As part of our commitment to support the areas around our developments, we were happy to help Houlton School with extra learning materials, particularly to help prepare the school’s first cohort of GCSE students. We also worked with the school’s librarian to add some new titles to the shelves that will hopefully inspire a genuine love for reading as well.

“We’re looking forward to catching up with Houlton School next year once the results are in to hear the many success stories.”

Jordan Smyth, Librarian and CFC Manager at Houlton School, said: “Houlton School opened its doors in September 2021 with its first group of 180 year 7 students, who are now selecting and preparing for their GCSEs.  It’s a privilege to watch our first pupils mature and grow into young adults, and this donation from Lovell Homes will be a huge benefit for us as we help them reach their goals.

“The additional library books are also a great initiative to encourage extra-curricular reading and instill a love for literature that may stay with them for the rest of their lives, and so we’re massively grateful for this generous gift.”
